Foundation Projects

Habib Alrahman foundation has secured a location in Omdurman Sudan city which was donated by Sudan Awgaf ministry. The 10,000 square feet (SF) will serve as a ground for building the first non profit kidney center and specialized hospital for kidney transplant and dialysis.  The long term plan is to construct a building of Five (5) stories to be completed through Three (3) phases depending on availability of funds:

Phase II DETAILS

We are extremely happy to share with you that we finally have the necessary funds to complete phase II (Transplant Center), including a laboratory and a pharmacy. This turned out to be a super lengthy process as summarized here:

We received 675K from a donor in Qatar in Ramadan of 2021. The donor gave the money to Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) to accomplish the intended work; however, QRC requested 20% administrative fees. The overall processing by QRC is extremely slow. We went back to the same donor in 2022 and we were able to obtain an additional 400K. After a super lengthy processing we ultimately received the final approval by QRC which will have more than $1,000,000 to complete phase (II) of the project. Its important to note that this after QRC took a 14% administrative fee.

Phase (II) includes:

Build infrastructure construction
(2) elevators
(2) full operating rooms (ORs)
(2) Intensive Care units (ICU) rooms
(4) bed recovery room
(1) Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics Laboratory (HLA)
Seimens C-arm fluoroscopy for vascular access Center
Especial air conditioning to cover ORs/ICU, lab and pharmacy

Phase II

Transplantation and Dialysis Vascular Access Center (first floor; 28 m x 28 m). It is urgently needed since transplantation is the optimal treatment for ESRD patients. Importantly, most of the ESRD patients are young and have living donors, which will make transplantation the ideal treatment. We had already spoken with three Sudanese transplant surgeons in USA, who indicated that this will be very achievable and that they will volunteer in the center. The vascular access is described below.

Phase III -TBD

When funds become available, the plan is to establish a specialized charity hospital for kidney diseases and transplantation (upper 3 floors). This phase will provide care for patients with all forms of kidney diseases, chronic kidney disease (CKD) care, as well as will accommodate more dialysis and other relevant services. Importantly, we will provide dialysis for patients with acute kidney injury (AKI), who currently receive dialysis in Bahri Hospital, and we are under the impression that most of these patients permanently end on dialysis due to poor medical care. We will have the opportunity to salvage many of these patients and take them off dialysis. This phase will also accommodate patients on peritoneal dialysis (PD) and more transplantation.

Phase I

The first phase will include the build of the infrastructure of the kidney center and the initial build out of the center to include (30) dialysis machines.

Phase I Detail

The funds for this project will help:

  • Infrastructure build of the kidney center
  • (30) dialysis machines
  • (30) dialysis chairs
  • Water Well
  • Hospital water purification system
  • Lab equipment
  • High capacity power generator
